History

tools-handsThe Society of Connecticut Sculptors was established in 1992 in the Hartford area by a small group of sculptors who wished to encourage the appreciation of sculpture in the state of Connecticut. The Society achieves this goal by a combination of exhibitions, workshops, social events, field trips and lectures, as well as other educational projects. All activities are open to the general public.

The Society of Connecticut Sculptors is a 501 C-3 nonprofit organization.

Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by the law.

ARTISTS
The Society continues to grow and we are proud to include in our membership a number of nationally recognized sculptors as well as students and other aspiring artists.  Our social activities, workshops and field trips provide us with opportunities to meet with, share ideas and derive inspiration from other members.

EXHIBITIONS

The Society currently plans on hosting 1-2 shows per year. One of these is usually in the shoreline area of Eastern Connecticut and the other in Fairfield County. The Society also participates in combined shows with other arts organizations from time to time. (The SCS does not take commissions for the sale of work.)

FIELD TRIPS and LECTURES

Past field trips have included a visit to the St. Gaudens National Historic Site in New Hampshire, a tour of a major arts foundry in New York and a guided tour of the memorial monuments in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. Other educational events have included discussions by internationally recognized artists and demonstrations by manufacturers of artists’ materials.
